Pastor LeRoy Ness was ordained in 1956 and
was called to the Bruce-Exeland Lutheran parish where he
served until the Evangelical Lutheran Church called him to the
United States Army Chaplain Corps.
While in the military he served with the 101st
ABN Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He later served with
the 101st in Vietnam. He served with the 24th
Infantry Division in Germany and in Fort Riley, Kansas. The
Army sent Pastor Ness to the University of Indiana to study
Adult Education and Philosophy prior to an assignment at the
Army Chaplain School in Fort Hamilton, New York. Following the
assignment at the Chaplain School where he was responsible for
program design and development of all courses of instruction.

Pastor Ness was assigned as a student at the Army War
College in Carlyle, Pennsylvania. His utilization assignment
was as director of the Leadership department at the Command
and General Staff College in For Leavenworth, Kansas. His last
assignment was a Director of Plans, Programs and Policies for
the Army Chaplain Corps, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Pastor Ness comes to Third Lutheran following fourteen
years at Trinity Lutheran in Kingston New York and a thirteen
month interim ministry at New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran in
Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania
Pastor Ness is from South Dakota. His wife Evelyn is from
Minnesota but both now happily say they are New Yorkers.
Evelyn has had many years of leadership in the Women of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church, Metropolitan New York Synod. Both
Evelyn and LeRoy are pleased to be members of the family of
God at Third Lutheran.
